Gyeongnam Province Seeks Solutions to Eliminate Human Rights Blind Spots
On the 18th at Changwon Convention Center, '2020 Gyeongnam-do Human Rights Promotion Joint Training (Workshop)' Held
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Gyeongsangnam-do held the "2020 Gyeongsangnam-do Human Rights Promotion Joint Training (Workshop)" on the 18th at Changwon Convention Center under the theme of "Exploring Development Plans for Regional Human Rights Governance to Address Human Rights Blind Spots in the COVID-19 Disaster Situation."
Hosted by the Provincial Human Rights Commission, this joint training was attended by over 40 human rights officers from the province and city/counties. It was conducted in the form of a discussion meeting to diagnose regional human rights policies aimed at strengthening human rights capabilities and responding to social disaster situations, and to gather opinions.
The session began with a presentation titled "COVID-19 and the Development Plan for Human Rights Governance" by Professor Kim Joong-seop of Gyeongsang National University, followed by a discussion chaired by Professor Lee Jung-eun of Changwon National University.
Presentations on the human rights of persons with disabilities, women, migrants, children, and the elderly during the COVID-19 situation were delivered by field, and active discussions on the respective agendas took place.
Seung Hae-kyung, Chairperson of the Provincial Human Rights Commission, stated, "In the social disaster situation caused by COVID-19, unnecessary personal information has been frequently disclosed, and the human rights of socially vulnerable groups have been violated."

She added, "Through this joint training, I hope it becomes an opportunity to reconsider the roles and responsibilities of local governments and civil society organizations so that effective human rights policies for socially vulnerable groups and a culture of human rights respect that residents can feel deeply can take root."
