Trademark Registration of Jungnang-gu Specialty Agricultural Product 'Meokgol Cheongsil Pear'
The brand name 'Meokgol Cheongsilbae' was created by combining Meokgol, the old name of Mukdong, and Cheongsilbae, the progenitor of Meokgolbae from the Joseon Dynasty.
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] “It’s really great that the trademark for pears, the representative agricultural product of Jungnang-gu, has been registered. I hope this trademark registration will help promote Jungnang-gu’s specialty product both domestically and internationally, leading to increased sales.”
This is the comment of a resident who operates a pear farm in Sinnae-dong, Jungnang-gu.
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is attracting attention with its brand development that preserves local traditions. The district announced that it has completed the trademark registration for its specialty agricultural product, ‘Meokgol Cheongsil Pear,’ establishing its identity as a pear-growing region.
Jungnang-gu, which has the largest number of pear farms in Seoul, registered this trademark to promote its representative specialty product and to support farmers’ income through efficient marketing.
Previously, the district commissioned brand development services last year, resulting in the creation of ‘Meokgol Cheongsil Pear.’ The trademark application was filed with the Korean Intellectual Property Office in August last year, and the trademark registration was approved on the 22nd of last month.
The brand name ‘Meokgol Cheongsil Pear’ was created by combining Meokgol, the old name of Muk-dong, and Cheongsil Pear, the progenitor pear of Meokgol from the Joseon Dynasty.
The logo symbolizes the pears and mountains of Jungnang-gu.
In particular, ‘Meokgol Cheongsil Pear’ reflects the historical background of 15th-century scholar Wang Bang-yeon (王邦衍), who cultivated pear trees in Meokgol beside the Jungnangcheon Stream, related to King Danjong of Joseon, which has received great support from local residents.
The newly created trademark will be actively used to promote and ship products from local pear farms, greatly contributing to enhancing the value and increasing the sales of ‘Meokgol Cheongsil Pear.’
