Korea BASF Sponsors Science Kits for Remote Learning in Yeosu, Ulsan, Daejeon, and More
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Global chemical company BASF has developed science experiment kits and online education programs to support non-face-to-face science education for elementary school students during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and will donate them to Ulsan, Yeosu, and Daejeon.
BASF announced on the 17th that a donation ceremony was held at Yeosu City Hall to deliver experiment kits to about 2,000 elementary school students in each city.
BASF operates a global education program called "Kids Lab" annually in 30 countries worldwide to promote children's interest in science. This is one of BASF's representative social contribution activities. Since its inception in Germany in 1997, the program has been steadily conducted in Korea for about 20 years, holding direct chemistry experiment classes for children across the country in Seoul, Yeosu, Ulsan, Daejeon, Gunsan, and other regions. This year, it has been developed into science experiment kits and online content to provide a non-face-to-face education program.
This year’s donated BASF Kids Lab experiment kits are linked to the elementary school curriculum and consist of three diverse and fun science experiments: "Transformation of Dirty Water," which explores the separation of mixtures and water purification; "Lava Lamp," which observes differences in weight and density of objects; and "Hydrogen Fuel Cell," which demonstrates water electrolysis. These experiments can be conducted under teacher supervision at schools or organizations, or children can safely and easily experiment with scientific principles remotely through online content accessible via QR codes provided with the kits.
Kim Young-ryul, CEO of BASF Korea, emphasized, "BASF Kids Lab, which has continued for over 20 years in Korea, demonstrates BASF’s commitment to growing together with local communities, and we will continue to strengthen our sense of social responsibility through such activities."
