[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Moon In) announced on the 17th that it was selected as the best institution in the comprehensive category of the Community Integrated Health Promotion Project at the '12th Local Government Health Promotion Project Performance Competition' hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, receiving the Minister of Health and Welfare Award and a prize of about 13 million won, the only one in Gwangju.
This Health Promotion Project Performance Competition was organized to discover local governments that contributed to residents' health promotion among 229 local governments nationwide and to spread their cases nationwide. Buk-gu won the grand prize for two consecutive years.
Last year, Buk-gu was the first in the nation to independently develop the 'Dong (Neighborhood) Health Management Work Manual' and established a small living area health service system.
After conducting big data analysis by residents' age and health type, three pilot dongs (Ilgok-dong, Usan-dong, Duam 3-dong) were selected to operate customized health promotion projects, striving to resolve health disparities.
Training health leaders for each project to build a resident-led network and inducing health behavior improvement through resident participation was also recognized as a nationwide exemplary case.
