Samsung Heavy, Orders 3 Crude Oil Tankers Worth 194.6 Billion KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 17th that it has secured an order for three Suezmax (S-Max) class crude oil tankers worth a total of 194.6 billion KRW from an Oceania-based shipping company. These vessels are scheduled to be delivered sequentially by January 2023. The contract includes options for two additional vessels, raising expectations for further orders. Samsung Heavy Industries explained that the newly ordered ships are equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems and Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS), making them compliant with environmental regulations. Fuel-saving technologies such as optimized hull forms and propellers tailored to the shipowner’s operational conditions were applied to enhance operational efficiency. A Samsung Heavy Industries official stated, "We will continue to expand our market share in the medium-to-large crude oil tanker segment with world-class eco-friendly smart ship technology competitiveness."
