New COVID-19 Cases in Seoul Exceed 80 for Two Consecutive Days

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Yesterday, 81 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Seoul alone, marking the number of new cases in the city at the 80s for two consecutive weekend days.
As of midnight on the 16th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Seoul increased by 81 from the previous day, reaching a cumulative total of 6,814 cases.
The daily number of confirmed cases had remained below 70 since recording 101 cases on September 1st, but surged to 74 cases on the 12th of this month after about 70 days, followed by 85 cases on the 14th and 81 cases on the 15th.
Among the new confirmed cases on this day, 19 were classified as cluster infections, 46 were contacts of confirmed cases, 2 were imported cases, and 14 cases were under investigation for their infection routes.
Major cluster infections include 4 cases related to sports facilities in Seongdong-gu, 3 cases related to sports facilities in Jungnang-gu (total 8 cases), 2 cases related to a gym in Gangnam-gu (total 57 cases), 2 cases related to the Military Welfare Group in Yongsan-gu (total 16 cases), and 2 cases related to the Seoul metropolitan area hiking club (November) among others.
In the case of the sports facility in Jungnang-gu, one visitor was first confirmed positive on the 10th, followed by 4 cases by the 14th, and on the 15th, 3 more cases including facility users and their families were confirmed, bringing the total related cases to 8.
Additionally, one new confirmed case each was added related to the Ace Hope Care Center in Dongdaemun-gu (total 63 cases), sauna in Gangseo-gu (total 9 cases), call center in Gangnam-gu (total 3 cases), CJ Telenix in Gangnam-gu (total 37 cases), a small factory in Jung-gu, and family-related cases in Seongbuk-gu.
So far, 5,885 people in Seoul have been declared recovered and discharged, while 848 remain in isolation.
