POSCO Has a 'Master of Service'... Over 10,000 Hours of Volunteering
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] POSCO has hidden masters of volunteering. They are employees and their families who have quietly volunteered for neighbors in need in the local community.
On the 15th, according to POSCO, Chairman Choi Jeong-woo invited employees’ spouses and family members who have volunteered for more than 10,000 hours, as well as employees who have volunteered for more than 3,000 hours, to hold a meaningful time encouraging their dedication and efforts.
On this day, Chairman Choi presented plaques of recognition and souvenirs to employees and families who took the lead for their communities and neighbors. In particular, employees and families who have volunteered for more than 10,000 hours will be subsequently selected for the 'POSCO 10,000 Hours Honors Club.' Ten thousand hours requires a long period of about seven years, assuming volunteering four hours every day without missing a day for 365 days a year.
Currently, POSCO has one employee who has volunteered for more than 10,000 hours, three employee spouses, and three families whose combined volunteer hours of employee family members have reached 10,000 hours.
As of last year, POSCO’s average volunteer hours per employee reached 26.9 hours, establishing volunteering and sharing as an inherent culture. This culture of sharing naturally permeates not only employees but also their families.
Chairman Choi Jeong-woo said, "The POSCO Corporate Citizenship Charter includes the phrase 'All members actively participate in sharing activities with a caring heart for neighbors.' The employees and families here have voluntarily practiced corporate citizenship long before it was declared as a management philosophy. I hope that the dedication and efforts of quietly devoting themselves to volunteering for a long time will serve as an opportunity to feel some sense of fulfillment and pride through this occasion."
Employee spouse Park Soon-hee, who received the 10,000-hour volunteer plaque, said, "Volunteering is a time when the small daily lives we live together become more beautiful," expressing the meaning of volunteering and her award impression.
Since she began volunteering in earnest in 2007, Park Soon-hee has devoted exceptional passion to volunteer work for about 13 years, including free meal service for local seniors, delivering lunch boxes to families of national veterans, making meals of love, and recently, directly engaging in disinfection efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, after encouraging outstanding volunteers, Chairman Choi also attended the unveiling ceremony of a media art work created to pledge the practice of corporate citizenship and achievement of results at the Pohang headquarters.
