[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The '67th National Middle School Baseball Championship,' held as a league-based tournament at Gyeongju Baseball Park, concluded with the final match on the 13th.
Hosted by Gyeongju City and the Korea Baseball Softball Association, and organized by the Gyeongbuk Baseball Softball Association and the Gyeongju City Baseball Softball Association, this tournament boasts the longest history among nationwide middle school baseball competitions in South Korea. From the 5th, over 2,200 players from 60 middle school teams nationwide, divided into two leagues, competed in a total of 58 thrilling games over nine days.
The final held on the 13th at Gyeongju Baseball Park Field 1 was conducted by league (Munmu, Muyeol). In the Munmu League, Daejeon Chungnam Middle School defeated Gwangju Jinhung Middle School 12 to 5 to claim the championship. In the Muyeol League, Chungnam Gongju Middle School defeated Seoul Chungam Middle School 7 to 6 to become the champion.
Gyeongju City held the games without spectators to prevent and curb the spread of COVID-19 during the tournament. According to Gyeongju City, thorough quarantine measures were taken, including temperature checks for all entrants, including players, and disinfection of the dugouts and surrounding areas by disinfecting personnel after each game.
A Gyeongju City official stated, "Although the number of participating teams was reduced compared to last year due to COVID-19, holding a nationwide baseball tournament during the off-season in November significantly helped the local economy."
