Entry Allowed at Gimhae Airport International Terminal Starting from the 3rd of Next Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), international arrivals at Gimhae Airport, which had been restricted since last April, will be allowed again starting from the 3rd of next month.
Busan City announced on the 15th that the entry restrictions at Gimhae Airport will be lifted from the 3rd of next month, allowing international flights to arrive.
The permitted route is the Busan?Qingdao section operated once a week by Air Busan, and the city plans to evaluate the quarantine response system and operational status in the future to decide whether to allow additional routes.
Gimhae Airport had been completely closed to arrivals and departures since April 6 of this year. However, due to local residents' inconvenience and to alleviate difficulties in the aviation industry, departures were partially allowed starting from September 8.
With arrivals resuming on the 3rd of next month, it will be the first time in eight months that flights both arrive and depart at Gimhae Airport.
Busan City had been continuously persuading quarantine authorities and the government to resume arrivals at Gimhae Airport, but the majority of quarantine personnel were dispatched to places such as Busan Port, making it difficult to secure quarantine staff and rendering the resumption of arrivals uncertain.
However, at the Central Disease Control Headquarters meeting held on the 13th, Busan City requested the resumption of arrivals at Gimhae Airport again, and following Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun's directive, an emergency meeting of related ministries was held, resulting in the decision to resume arrivals.
