Korea Re-elected as Director Member of International Electrotechnical Commission... 'Leading International Standards'

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 14th that South Korea was re-elected as a member of the board at the '84th International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) General Assembly' held via video on the 13th.
The IEC is an international standardization organization established in 1906 for international cooperation in developing standards and conformity assessment in the electrical and electronic fields.
The board consists of a total of 15 members, including 6 permanent members such as the United States and 9 non-permanent members including South Korea. Non-permanent members are elected through elections and serve a term of 3 years.
The board member position will be held by Professor Kang Byung-gu of Korea University.
An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, "Although there was fierce competition among the non-permanent board members in this election, South Korea was elected first in recognition of its active international standardization activities and contributions to the international community."
Lee Seung-woo, head of the National Institute of Technology and Standards, said, "After taking on the ISO board member position last year, we have now been reappointed as an IEC board member, establishing the framework of an international standardization control tower."

Lee added, "As a board member, we will increase our contributions to the international community by sharing South Korea's standardization experience with developing countries and actively reflecting our country's industrial technology in international standards to enhance the global competitiveness of our companies."
