The exhibition was prepared to correct the perspective of viewing children not as complete individuals but as the property of their parents.
At the exhibition, visitors can see 100 phrases that hurt children, such as "I live only for you," "You must not live like your father," "I do it all for your own good," and "What you do is always like that," along with paintings expressing the emotions children feel when hearing those words.
In May of this year, the district signed a business agreement with Save the Children for "the protection and promotion of child rights," and this exhibition was planned as part of that collaboration.
Children who visited the exhibition said, "It feels scary and makes me angry," and "If my parents speak to me harshly, I would feel sad," expressing empathy.
Save the Children stated, "More than 40% of child abuse cases are emotional abuse, and words commonly used in daily life can hurt children and cause anxiety," adding, "Please remember that children are individuals who must not be hit even with words and deserve equal respect."
On the 12th of this month, Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, who visited the exhibition hall, said, "I hope this exhibition becomes an opportunity for adults to reflect on the words and actions carelessly uttered to children and to soothe the wounded hearts of children."
