KOSPI Ends Slightly Higher at 2490 Level on Net Buying by Foreigners and Institutions
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The KOSPI index recovered the previous day's losses with simultaneous net buying by foreign and institutional investors, closing the week at the 2490 level. The KOSDAQ index ended the session slightly lower.
On the 13th, the KOSPI closed at 2493.87, up 18.25 points (0.74%) from the previous day. The KOSPI started lower but showed mixed trends in the morning session, turning upward around 11:30 AM, and extended gains somewhat in the afternoon to close the week at the 2490 level.
Looking at trading trends by participant, foreign and institutional investors led the index rise with net purchases of 527.4 billion KRW and 93.5 billion KRW respectively. Conversely, individual investors sold a net 590.4 billion KRW.
By sector, electrical and electronics (2.65%), paper and wood (1.56%), and manufacturing (1.27%) rose, while transportation and warehousing (-1.89%), textiles and apparel (-1.22%), and finance (-1.13%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics (3.61%), Kakao (2.24%), Hyundai Motor (2.01%), LG Chem (1.88%), SK Hynix (1.82%), and NAVER (0.72%) rose, whereas Samsung SDI (-2.72%), LG Household & Health Care (-1.93%), and Celltrion (-0.68%) fell.
In the KOSPI market that day, 299 stocks rose, including one that hit the upper price limit, while 530 stocks declined with no stocks hitting the lower price limit. Seventy-seven stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ index ended the week slightly lower. It started the day down and maintained a decline of around 0.5% throughout the session, narrowing losses in the late session to close at 839.14, down 0.94 points (0.11%) from the previous trading day.
By trading participant, foreign and institutional investors sold a net 39.3 billion KRW and 23.2 billion KRW respectively, while individual investors bought a net 146.5 billion KRW.
By sector, internet (1.70%), information devices (1.15%), and semiconductors (0.89%) rose, while telecommunications equipment (-1.76%), food and tobacco (-1.57%), and general electrical and electronics (-1.31%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Genexine (3.77%), Alteogen (1.45%), and SK Materials (1.39%) rose. Conversely, KMW (-3.33%), Hugel (-1.84%), CJ ENM (-1.84%), Celltrion Pharm (-1.60%), and Studio Dragon (-1.11%) declined.
