At the recent academic conference held at Keimyung University, Kim Jun-cheol from the Department of Statistics (1st year master's) received the Best Paper Presentation Award, while Lee Seung-jae (2nd year master's) and Go Nak-gyeong (2nd year master's) from the Department of Artificial Intelligence Convergence received the Excellence Award and Encouragement Award, respectively.
Kim Jun-cheol, who received the Best Paper Award, was recognized for his outstanding research with the paper titled "Mixed Cure Model Using M-Spline Approach" (Advisor: Ha Il-do).
In his paper, unlike traditional survival data, he proposed a mixed cure model applying the M-spline approach to survival data where the survival function converges to a non-zero constant (cure rate) because certain patients do not experience the event of interest even after sufficient time has passed.
He demonstrated validity through examples using actual clinical data, receiving the highest evaluation.
Lee Seung-jae, who received the Excellence Award, was recognized for his paper "A Study on the Impact of Variable Selection in Deep Learning Regression/Classification Problems" (Advisor: Jang Dae-heung), which evaluated how traditional variable selection methods or penalized regression affect model evaluation metrics and computational speed in deep learning regression and classification problems using real data.
Go Nak-gyeong, who received the Encouragement Award, proposed an accelerated hazard analysis model using the log-logistic distribution as a method for handling clinical trial data in his paper "Accelerated Hazard Analysis Model for Competing Risks Data" (Advisor: Ha Il-do), and proved its validity with actual clinical data, earning a favorable evaluation.
