Gwangju City to Provide Free Calcium Chloride Deicing Materials to 5,000 Citizens Starting from the 16th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Gwangju Metropolitan City Comprehensive Construction Headquarters will distribute approximately 170 tons of calcium chloride deicing materials, enough for about 5,000 people, free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis in 20 to 40 kg portions to citizens at the Construction Headquarters building in Bonchon-dong starting from the 16th.
This distribution of deicing materials is part of the "Clearing Snow in Front of My House and Store" campaign.
Since the revision of the Natural Disaster Countermeasures Act in 2005 and the enactment and enforcement of the "Ordinance on Snow and Ice Removal by Building Managers" in each autonomous district, building managers have been obligated since 2006 to be responsible for snow removal on sidewalks and side roads around their buildings.
Along with this, Gwangju City has designated the period from the 15th of this month to March 15th of next year as the focused period for winter snow and road icing countermeasures, establishing a winter road snow removal plan and making thorough preparations.
To ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize inconvenience to road users through prompt snow removal during heavy snowfall in winter, the Comprehensive Construction Headquarters has prepared a workforce of about 40 employees, 26 heavy equipment vehicles including dump trucks, and 1,300 tons of deicing materials.

Oh Gyu-hwan, head of the Comprehensive Construction Headquarters, stated, "We plan to make every effort to prevent safety accidents caused by heavy snowfall this winter and minimize inconvenience to residents," and added, "We ask citizens to actively participate in clearing snow in front of their homes and stores for a safer Gwangju community during the winter season."
