Action Square, Cumulative 3Q Separate Operating Profit Turns Positive... "Visible Escape from Management Item Status"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Action Square announced on the 12th that its separate basis cumulative operating profit for the third quarter reached 1.2 billion KRW, turning to a profit compared to the same period last year. During the same period, consolidated sales recorded 4.7 billion KRW, and an operating loss of 800 million KRW, significantly reducing the operating loss compared to the same period last year.
Since last year, the company has reduced fixed expenses through restructuring its game production studio and downsizing personnel, successfully turning to an operating profit on a separate basis.
Action Square was designated as a management item due to continuous operating losses on a separate basis for four consecutive years and a loss from continuing operations before income tax exceeding 50% of equity capital last year. With an annual operating profit turnaround expected this year, the possibility of being removed from the management item list next year has increased.
Action Square, a company specializing in action games, plans to embark on a full-scale move to rebuild its reputation as a leading action game company through large-scale updates of existing games and development of new blockbuster games.
The flagship game, "Samguk Blade," is scheduled for a large-scale update called "Samguk Blade 2.0" in the first quarter of next year. Through this large-scale update, major content will be completely revamped, and new entertainment features will be provided, expecting additional influx of new users.
The new top-down shooting action game "Project GR" signed a publishing contract with SKT and Xbox including Xbox Game Pass in September. After release, development is being accelerated to enable play in cloud gaming formats such as next-generation Xbox and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Additionally, Action Square signed a game development contract with drama production company AStory to utilize the Netflix original series "Kingdom" IP. The company plans to actively leverage the "Kingdom" IP to develop a high-quality zombie action game that faithfully reproduces the original’s attractive characters and settings. By fully utilizing the action game development know-how accumulated through the "Blade" series and "Samguk Blade," they aim to release a game with top-level graphics and action quality to the global market.
