Jeju Island Signs 'Social Agreement' to Support Housing Stability for Vulnerable Groups
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 12th that it has signed a social agreement to identify housing-vulnerable groups in the blind spots of social welfare and support their housing stability.
On the afternoon of the same day, Jeju Province signed a social agreement to support housing stability for vulnerable groups at Samda Hall on the 2nd floor of the main building, together with the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Social Agreement Committee, the Gujwa-eup, Daejeong-eup, Aewol-eup, Pyoseon-myeon village chiefs' councils and eup/myeon community security councils, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Development Corporation, and Korea Land and Housing Corporation, establishing a housing support network involving the private sector, government, and public enterprises.
This social agreement, promoted mainly by the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Social Agreement Committee, was prepared to identify vulnerable groups in blind spots who are in urgent need of housing support but are excluded due to lack of information or welfare benefits, and to establish a system for practical housing welfare support.
The signing ceremony was attended by Governor Won Hee-ryong, Chairman Oh Chang-soo of the Social Agreement Committee, President Kim Jeong-hak of the Development Corporation, Jeong Kyung-yoon, head of the Jeju Regional Headquarters of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation, and chairpersons of the village chiefs' councils and eup/myeon community security councils from the four pilot areas selected.
Governor Won Hee-ryong said, “Although there are various existing welfare and housing support systems, the Social Agreement Committee has stepped forward to provide practical help to residents facing blind spots or crisis situations due to COVID-19 and to find the people and methods needed.” He emphasized, “We must connect institutions, villages, and administration well to closely observe and identify residents in difficulty and provide practical help so that not a single resident is pushed to the edge due to housing problems.”
He continued, “If there are improvements related to land or welfare systems, I hope exemplary cases can be created based on the social agreement starting today,” and added, “The province will actively support to achieve practical results.”
