Mayor Yujinseop Visits Site for Purchasing Typhoon-Damaged Rice and Public Reserve Rice
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province announced on the 12th that it has started purchasing rice damaged by the typhoon and dried rice from the 2020 public stockpiled rice.
Starting with the purchase of typhoon-damaged rice at the Udeok Warehouse in Deokcheon-myeon on the 9th, the purchase will be conducted a total of 51 times across 23 eup, myeon, and dong in the region until the 27th.
Mayor Yoo Jin-seop visited the purchasing site in Taein-myeon on the same day to check this year's rice crop, encourage farmers who have worked hard throughout the year for the harvest, and listen to their difficulties.
Mayor Yoo said, "I thank the farmers for their hard work despite the harsh conditions of rice farming due to COVID-19, frequent typhoons, and long rainy seasons," and added, "We will do our best to stabilize rice prices and improve the competitiveness of agriculture."
This year's public stockpiled rice purchase varieties are two types: Sindongjin and Haepum, with a purchase volume of 6,412 tons.
The weight is based on ton-bag units: 800 kg of grain weight for public stockpiled rice and 600 kg of grain weight for typhoon-damaged rice.
The purchase price of public stockpiled rice is determined based on the nationwide average farm-gate rice price during the harvest season (October to December).
The interim settlement payment is 30,000 KRW per 40 kg, paid immediately after purchase, and the final settlement will be paid at the end of the year once the price is determined.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the city strictly adheres to social distancing guidelines at the public stockpiled rice purchase inspection sites, including prohibiting food consumption and group viewing of grading, staggered shipments by village or farm, wearing masks, providing hand sanitizers, and maintaining visitor logs.
Additionally, the city is doing its best to ensure on-site safety so that not a single accident occurs within the purchase sites.
