Galleria Department Store Leads the Establishment of Proper Values with 'Light! Galleria'
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Galleria Department Store is taking the lead in social contribution by continuously carrying out the ‘Light! Galleria’ campaign activities this year to establish proper values.
On the 12th, Galleria Department Store announced that through the ‘Light! Galleria’ campaign, it aims to establish itself as a ‘conscious department store’ among customers. The ‘Light! Galleria’ campaign is a social contribution campaign that Galleria has been conducting since 2019, focusing on three major areas: ▲environmental protection ▲respect for life ▲safety culture to promote sustainable consumption culture and the spread of proper values.
‘Light! Ocean’ Campaign Warning of the Danger of ‘Microplastics,’ the Main Cause of Marine Pollution
In the field of environmental protection, Galleria carried out the ‘Light! Ocean’ project this year in collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to raise awareness about marine pollution caused by plastics. Galleria’s employee volunteer group conducted waste plastic collection activities along the coast near Hakampo, Taean, Chungnam Province, created and sold upcycled waste plastic artworks, and donated the sales proceeds to WWF to support environmental protection activities.
In particular, furniture pieces such as chairs and tables made from plastic were designed under the concept of ‘Plastic Dinner’ by the eco-friendly designer Moon Seungji, gaining attention. Through these works, Moon Seungji intended to encourage people to recognize environmental pollution as a serious issue that should be accepted in daily life and improved.
Through this project, Galleria was recognized for its sincere activities by connecting simple waste plastic collection with upcycling production, donations, and environmental pollution improvement.
Continued Support for Abandoned Dogs in the Blind Spot of Respect for Life Due to COVID-19
In the field of respect for life, Galleria has been running the ‘PARAN Project’ since 2018, which highlights the blind spots of companion animals and strives for welfare advancement. ‘PARAN’ is a name that reflects the will to protect the rights and needs of companion animals. The ‘PARAN Project’ has set three major missions: ▲supporting core projects of animal protection organizations ▲supporting the end of dog meat consumption projects ▲supporting new lives for abandoned animals, and has carried out voluntary volunteer and sponsorship activities by employees.
This year, Galleria actively expanded support activities for abandoned dogs, who have been pushed further into the blind spot of ‘respect for life’ due to COVID-19. Key activities included providing food, medical expenses, and heartworm medication to abandoned dog shelters, supporting the abolition of illegal dog farms on Gyeyang Mountain in Incheon, and conducting treatment and adoption of rescued dogs. Additionally, efforts were made to raise awareness about the reality and necessity of abolishing illegal dog farms and ending dog meat consumption.
Going a step further, at the end of November, Galleria will hold an ‘Abandoned Dog Adoption Day’ event at Galleria Gwanggyo to promote the adoption of abandoned animals. This event is co-hosted with the abandoned animal adoption platform ‘Paw in Hand’ and the Yongin City Animal Protection Association. The event will feature education on proper abandoned dog adoption by veterinarian Hwanhee Lee from Paw in Hand, and the Yongin City Animal Protection Association will bring 11 abandoned dogs under their care directly to the department store to match them with customers interested in adoption.
Galleria’s sincere activities are supported by the will and firm philosophy of top management. CEO Eunsoo Kim is an active sponsor and advocate dedicated to advancing companion animal culture, and has published the book Reasoned Life to establish proper awareness of companion animals and highlight animal welfare issues.
‘Light! Love’ Challenge Delivering Support Messages to Medical Staff Fighting COVID-19
In the field of safety culture, Galleria conducted the ‘Light! Love’ challenge to deliver support messages to medical staff battling COVID-19.
The ‘Light! Love’ challenge featured heart-shaped lighting on the luxury hall’s media facade and was carried out in a relay nomination format. Support messages were also displayed on eight buildings, including The Plaza, a major landmark of Hanwha Construction and Service Division, Hanwha Resort Haeundae, Hanwha Eagles Stadium, and Foretna Yeosu.
Additionally, a customer participation donation event was held, where Galleria donated 1,000 KRW per comment posted by customers on Galleria’s social network services (SNS), application, and website supporting the overcoming of COVID-19, with the donations delivered to medical staff.
