"Spread Love to Neighbors!"... Mapo-gu 'Love Thermometer' Unveiling Ceremony
Fundraising Event for Donations and Goods to Help Needy Neighbors Runs Until February 15 Next Year... This Year's Goal: 800 Million Won... 'Untact (U·N·T·ACT)' Live Fundraising Broadcast at Mapo Art Center on the 19th
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) held an unveiling ceremony for the ‘Love Thermometer’ to promote the ‘2021 Warm Winter Campaign’ on the afternoon of the 11th at the plaza of Mapo Central Library.
Hosted by the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest and supported in promotion by Mapo-gu, the 2021 Warm Winter Campaign will conduct fundraising events for donations and goods to help neighbors in need from the 16th of this month until February 15th of next year, under the slogan “The more you share, the greater the amazing miracle!”
Mapo-gu’s fundraising target for this year is 800 million KRW, the same as last year. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of neighbors urgently needing help has increased.
The Love Thermometer installed at Mapo-gu Office and Mapo Central Library rises by 1 degree each time 1% of the target amount, 8 million KRW, is collected, allowing residents to check the warmth of sharing in real time.
Last year, Mapo-gu raised a total of 1.32 billion KRW, which is 165% of the target amount, with cash donations reaching a record high of 565 million KRW.
The district expanded support by allocating 100 million KRW for dental treatment support for low-income groups, 30 million KRW for cooling supplies for energy-vulnerable groups to prepare for heat waves, and 60 million KRW for emergency living expenses support.
Additionally, 10 million KRW was provided for the ‘Mind Tok Tok Project’ supporting youth mental health, 18 million KRW for the ‘Happy Filling Home’ project assisting low-income families with moving expenses, 13 million KRW for school uniform support for single-parent families, and 73 million KRW for the ‘Take Care of the Whole Neighborhood’ project across 16 districts to enhance local welfare, adding warmth to the community.
Meanwhile, on the 19th, a live fundraising broadcast called ‘U·N·T·ACT’ jointly hosted by the Mapo-gu Community Security Council and the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest will be held at Studio 3 of the Mapo Arts Center. The program will include a report on last year’s fundraising results, interviews with major donors, and sharing performances.
U·N·T·ACT stands for Untact (non-face-to-face), Network (public-private cooperation), Together (viral marketing via SNS promotion), and ACT (putting small donations, campaigns, and neighborly care into action). The fundraising broadcast will be streamed live on the Mapo TV YouTube channel in accordance with social distancing guidelines.
