Gokseong-gun Encourages Local Producers Exporting Kimchi to the United States
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, visited a local production company that exports kimchi to the United States to offer encouragement.
According to Gokseong-gun on the 10th, the county has been continuously supporting competitive local agricultural product manufacturers.
This is to increase the added value of agricultural products and create new income sources to contribute to the local economy.
Such support has been a great help in revitalizing local companies even amid the COVID-19 situation. ‘Okgwa Matitneun Kimchi’ (Okgwa Delicious Kimchi) is one of them. Gokseong-gun has supported facility modernization, including the installation of an automatic kimchi production line for Okgwa Matitneun Kimchi.
As a result, Okgwa Matitneun Kimchi produces kimchi using napa cabbages contracted and cultivated with local farms, establishing a win-win model with local farmers.
In particular, this time, a total of 6,560 kg (about 22.5 million KRW) of kimchi, including napa cabbage kimchi, chonggak kimchi, and baek kimchi, will be exported to the United States. The company plans to export various types of kimchi such as dongchimi, aged kimchi (mukeunji), kkakdugi, and green onion kimchi in addition to the three types of kimchi starting with this export.
Gokseong-gun is also actively supporting the export path of local companies. It plans to support export logistics costs and the production costs of export packaging materials in the future.
A county official said, “We will work together so that local companies can expand globally.”

Meanwhile, Okgwa Matitneun Kimchi Agricultural Cooperative Corporation started its kimchi business in 2013 under the slogan “Mother’s Hand Taste.” Since 2018, it has been distributing 3 kg of kimchi weekly free of charge to eight vulnerable households in the Okgwa area, and in 2019 expanded this to Gokseong-eup and in 2020 to Seokgok-myeon, practicing local love.
