Gwangju Global Motors Leads Efforts for Regional Win-Win Cooperation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangju Global Motors (GGM), the nation’s first regional win-win job creation company, has been found to significantly contribute to revitalizing the local economy and creating jobs by actively practicing regional cooperation during the factory construction process.
In particular, following the practice of regional cooperation during the factory construction, the company plans to fill most of the large-scale production workforce to be hired next year with local talent and to conduct bidding for solar power facilities to be installed on the factory site targeting local companies.
According to GGM on the 10th, the construction progress rate of the production factory currently being built in Bitgreen Industrial Complex stands at 90.4% for the body shop, 88.5% for the painting shop, and 83.8% for the assembly shop, averaging 69%. This is about 2% higher than originally planned.
Currently, most of the exterior wall work has been completed, and installation of production equipment is underway. The factory is scheduled to undergo commissioning in February next year, trial production in April, and enter mass production in September.
GGM is personally practicing regional cooperation during the factory construction process.
First, during the factory construction and equipment installation, the company actively cooperated with the construction company and entrusted 62.3% of the subcontracted construction amount (direct construction cost) to local companies.
Local small and medium-sized enterprises and mid-sized companies are expected to greatly benefit from this opportunity by gaining experience and technology in participating in the construction of an automobile production factory, which will help them enter related businesses in the future.
Construction labor and equipment were also sourced from local workers and companies.
Among the approximately 85,000 workers deployed at the construction site, about 67,000 are local personnel.
Additionally, out of 44 equipment companies, 42 are local companies, resulting in a participation rate of 97%.
Except for those excluded due to technical issues, almost all local companies and personnel were involved.
Furthermore, among the 85 successful candidates for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounds of experienced hires this year, 68 (80%) are from Gwangju and Jeonnam, and the approximately 800 technical personnel to be hired in the first half of next year will mostly be selected from local talent.
GGM has also confirmed a policy to conduct bidding targeting local companies for the 11.2 MW solar power generation facility to be constructed on the automobile factory and parking lot site, following the strong will of CEO Park Kwang-tae from the beginning.
Once the factory is fully operational, the company plans to significantly increase participation from local companies, local disabled-owned businesses, and women-owned businesses in various consumables expected to be needed within feasible limits.
The ongoing bidding for the in-house cafeteria catering company also mandates the use of a certain level of local agricultural and marine products through re-announcement, and requires that more than 70% of on-site staff such as cooks be hired from local residents.
