SKIET Launches Full-Scale Operations at Changzhou Separator Factory in China
[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] SK Innovation's materials business subsidiary SK IE Technology (SKIET) announced on the 10th that it will officially start operations at its separator factory in Changzhou, China.
To respond to the rapid growth of the global battery industry, SKIET completed its first overseas base, a separator factory with an annual production capacity of 340 million square meters, in Changzhou, China, in August this year.
The Changzhou factory has undergone a three-month trial operation period and is now entering full-scale commercial production.
With the addition of the Changzhou factory, SKIET now has a total production capacity of 870 million square meters, including the 530 million square meters annual capacity separator factory in Jeungpyeong, Chungbuk.
Furthermore, SKIET plans to sequentially operate overseas factories under construction in China and Poland by 2023, increasing production capacity to 1.37 billion square meters by the end of next year and 1.87 billion square meters by the end of 2023.
SKIET explained, "By producing high-quality separators locally in China, which accounts for nearly half of the global electric vehicle market, we can respond more quickly to the influx of orders," adding, "Our global business competitiveness will be greatly enhanced."
SKIET has set a goal to solidify its position as the world’s number one in the wet-process separator market by 2025 with a 30% market share, leveraging its aggressively invested production capacity and technological competitiveness in manufacturing high-quality separators.
