Hyundai Rotem Wins 76 Billion KRW Order for Production Equipment at Ford Global Car Plant
Ford Cumulative Orders Reach 280 Billion KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Hyundai Rotem announced on the 9th that it has secured a transportation equipment construction project worth a total of 76.3 billion KRW from Ford Motor Company for factories in three countries: Argentina, South Africa, and Thailand. Through this order, Hyundai Rotem will supply transportation equipment to Ford factories located in these three countries by 2022.
Transportation equipment refers to a system centered on conveyors that continuously transports various automobile parts such as chassis, engines, doors, and bodies on the production line with optimal efficiency. It is an essential core automobile production logistics facility for factory operation and improving production efficiency.
Including this order, Hyundai Rotem has achieved a cumulative order amount of 280 billion KRW for automobile production equipment from Ford. Starting with transportation equipment for the Mexico factory in 2008, it has continuously secured projects such as presses for the India factory in 2011, transportation equipment for the India factory in 2012, transportation equipment for the Thailand factory in 2015, and transportation equipment for the U.S. factory in 2016, gaining recognition for quality and technological capability.
Hyundai Rotem supplies automobile production equipment to global automakers and electric vehicle companies including Hyundai and Kia Motors, Ford, GM, Renault, and Nissan. Based on this, it has secured projects such as GM’s U.S. factory press (2014), Ford’s U.S. factory transportation equipment (2016), and last year’s Renault France factory transportation equipment delivery project.
Hyundai Rotem estimates the global automobile production equipment market to be worth over 2 trillion KRW annually. The company plans to continue targeting the global market by leveraging the know-how accumulated through abundant project execution experience and its capability to build optimal production equipment.
In particular, the company intends to expand orders in response to the increasing demand for production equipment due to the rise of emerging electric vehicle manufacturers without automobile production experience in the rapidly growing global electric vehicle production equipment market.
