[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Jeong Mu-young, former president of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), will receive the Order of Service Merit, Blue Stripes.
UNIST (President Lee Yong-hoon) will hold a medal conferment ceremony for former President Jeong Mu-young at 5:30 p.m. on the 9th in the main university building, 6th floor, medium conference room.
The Order of Service Merit, Blue Stripes is the highest first-class grade among the Service Merit Orders awarded for outstanding achievements while performing duties as a public official.
Former President Jeong Mu-young will receive the Order of Service Merit, Blue Stripes, the highest grade of the Service Merit Order, in recognition of his contributions to national education development as an educator.
Jeong took office as the third president of UNIST in 2015, coinciding with UNIST's transition to a science and technology institute, and served until 2019.
During his term, he worked to improve the quality of UNIST research and to establish a full-cycle startup ecosystem, achieving results that significantly enhanced the institution's research capabilities and international standing in a short period.

Jeong earned his Ph.D. in engineering from Kansas State University in 1984, served as a professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at POSTECH from 1986 to 2008, and as a professor at UNIST from 2008 to 2015, holding various headquarters positions and vice president roles.
