A Forum for Sharing Research Outcomes of Five Emerging Scientists
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] The Seokyungbae Science Foundation (Chairman Seokyung Bae) announced on the 9th that it held the 1st Seokyungbae Science Foundation Symposium on the 7th at Amorepacific Headquarters, Amore Hall.
The event was attended by about 40 leading scholars in the field of life sciences, including Chairman Seokyung Bae, former judging committee members, young scientists of the Seokyungbae Science Foundation, Professor Kyu-Young Ko (KAIST), and Professor Bong-Kyun Kang (Seoul National University). About 100 young scientists, affiliated students, and invitees, including Professor Dohun Kim (Massachusetts Medical School) who is currently abroad, participated online via Webex and YouTube.
In his keynote speech, Professor Kyu-Young Ko said, "Many scientists were deeply impressed by the Seokyungbae Science Foundation’s efforts to select and support outstanding young scientists. The first-generation scientists of Korea started their scientific journey under harsh conditions and achieved progress step by step, but I hope young scientists will jump higher and soar based on a solid foundation."
The certificate awarding ceremony for the 2020 Seokyungbae Science Foundation young scientists?Professor Sunghoon Noh (Department of Life Sciences, Seoul National University), Professor Juhyun Lee (University of Cambridge, Cambridge Stem Cell Institute), and Professor Wonki Cho (Department of Life Sciences, KAIST)?was also held.
In the afternoon session, recent research achievements of young scientists selected in 2017 were presented, including ▲Professor Chanhee Kang of Seoul National University’s “Research on aging and aging-related diseases through control of senescence-associated secretory phenotype” ▲Professor Dohun Kim of Massachusetts Medical School’s “Study on the role of toxic metabolites generated in the body in diseases” ▲Professor Jungho Lee of KAIST’s “Research on neural circuit abnormalities and neuropsychiatric disorder onset caused by acquired brain somatic mutations,” followed by discussions on future research directions.
Chairman Seokyung Bae emphasized, “Four years ago, we established the foundation with the firm belief in Cheonoe Yucheon (meaning ‘beyond the visible sky, there is another infinite sky’) to advance life sciences, and we are striving to create an environment where creative young scientists can focus solely on their research. We will fully serve as a strong ‘partner’ in the passionate research journey of young scientists for the future of humanity.”
