[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] The number of new domestic cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has returned to triple digits after two days.
As of midnight on the 8th, the Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that the number of new domestic COVID-19 cases increased by 143, bringing the total to 27,427. Among the 143 new cases, 118 were locally transmitted and 25 were imported.
The number of new cases on this day increased by 54 compared to the previous day (89), rising back to the 100s for the first time in two days since the 6th (145). This marks a return to triple digits just one day after dropping to double digits.
Recently, the number of confirmed cases has been rising due to successive cluster outbreaks not only in vulnerable facilities such as nursing homes and long-term care hospitals but also in everyday settings such as workplaces, family, and acquaintances' gatherings.
