Kooksoondang, Cost-Effective California Wines Introduced
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Sun-hye] The alcoholic beverage industry is adding to the romance of late autumn by unveiling new wine products one after another.
According to the industry on the 7th, HiteJinro introduced the new product "Erezi" from the renowned South French winery G?rard Bertrand.
Erezi is a wine made by selecting only the best grapes produced in Corbi?res, a region in Languedoc-Roussillon in southern France, by G?rard Bertrand. It is the first time this product has been introduced worldwide this year. The Corbi?res region is a symbolic place in the history of southern France, where traces of the Christian heretical Cathars, who took root in the area around the 12th century during the medieval period, remain. The ruins of the Cathar castles, which resisted the Crusaders for 20 years before disappearing, still surround the Corbi?res vineyards, and Erezi was born inspired by this history.
Erezi exquisitely captures the Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan varieties produced at this winery, showcasing a complex and powerful aroma and the elegance of silky smooth tannins, different from traditional Corbi?res wines. The front label features the Hydra from Greek mythology, symbolizing the revival and rebirth of this historically rich region.
G?rard Bertrand, the producer of Erezi, is a winery that sparked a revolution in southern French wines and is known as a benchmark for other wineries in the region. Notably, it is an eco-friendly winery that first implemented biodynamic farming in southern France, using lunar calendar-based farming and medicinal plants rather than simple organic methods to improve wine quality. In 2008, it was selected as the Best Value Winery by Wine Spectator among 200 French wineries, and in 2011, it won the European Winery of the Year award at the Wine Star Awards. Additionally, in 2012, it was named Best Red Winemaker by the International Wine Challenge (IWC), and in January 2016, it was selected as Winery of the Year by La Revue du Vin de France.
Lotte Chilsung Beverage has launched five types of mid-to-high-end American wines "Parts & Hall" for the first time in the domestic market.
Parts & Hall is a winery established in 1988 in California, one of the representative wine regions in the United States. It specializes in producing the grape varieties "Pinot Noir" and "Chardonnay," which represent California wines.
The Parts & Hall wines introduced this time include three white wines?Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, Dutton Ranch Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard Napa Valley Chardonnay?and two red wines?Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and Hyde Vineyard Napa Valley Pinot Noir. They will be sold nationwide at department stores and famous restaurants starting next month.
Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is fermented in oak barrels using wild yeast, with an impressive finish featuring almond and cinnamon aromas following a first taste of acidity reminiscent of pineapple, guava, and lime. Dutton Ranch Chardonnay is also fermented in oak barrels using wild yeast and is characterized by apple-like acidity.
Hyde Vineyard Napa Valley Chardonnay uses cultured yeast and is aged in oak barrels, then bottled without additional refining processes to enhance its flavor, featuring balanced acidity that leaves a long finish.
Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir offers intense aromas of cherry, strawberry, and dried rose, with acidity filling the mouth and leaving a complex aftertaste. Hyde Vineyard Napa Valley Pinot Noir uses a blend of natural and cultured yeasts, delivering the soft tannins characteristic of the Pinot Noir variety along with strawberry and rose scents that fill the palate.
Kooksoondang is launching the California wine "Deroche," known for its cost-effectiveness as a daily wine, in the domestic market.
Daily wine refers to "affordable wines enjoyed in everyday life." Deroche is produced at the Deroche Winery located in California, USA. The winery was established in 1970 by Cecil Deroche and Christine Deroche. It is situated in the Russian River Valley, where the characteristics of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the representative varieties of Burgundy, France, are well expressed. In 1975, it was the first to use the Russian River Valley name on its wine labels to indicate the terroir, and in 1983, it played a significant role in creating the Russian River Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) certification.
In 2003, the winery was acquired by the renowned Burgundy wine family Jean-Claude Boisset, who applied Burgundy winemaking methods. The combination of the characteristics of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with Burgundy's winemaking techniques has earned it the reputation of "French wine tasted through American roots."
Since 2004, Deroche Winery has cultivated its vineyards using biodynamic farming methods, an eco-friendly agricultural practice that excludes all chemical substances.
The Deroche wines launched domestically include a total of eight types: five "Heritage Reserve Wines" made from single major varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay from California, and three "Russian River Valley Wines" made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Sonoma region.
Among them, the five California "Heritage Reserve Wines" are cost-effective wines priced around 10,000 KRW, rarely found in the domestic market, and are sold at 19,000 KRW each at major Lotte Department Store locations in the metropolitan area.
