The Year's Final Peak... Convenience Store Industry Betting Big on 'Pepero Day'
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] The convenience store industry has launched efforts to capture the year's final big sales event, 'Pepero Day.' To address concerns over the spread of COVID-19, they are expanding delivery services and conducting live broadcasts, showcasing various marketing strategies.
First, GS25 is holding the largest-ever Pepero Day event with 1,200 new products, 30,000 prizes, and over 30 promotions. For this year's Pepero Day, the number of event products has increased by 34% compared to the monthly average.
They are also introducing about 20 planned products that evoke nostalgia among the MZ generation, such as Teletubbies and Dwaejiba. The Teletubbies characters Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa, and Po have each been used as product designs. Customers who collect five stamps on The Pop app will be randomly given a Teletubbies grip tok or plush doll to the first 3,500 people.
CU held an Instagram live broadcast (hereafter 'live') under the theme 'Baekbaero Day,' which means '100 times the fun,' targeting the upcoming Pepero Day. On the 6th, through CU's official Instagram account, they sold Wemakeprice CU delivery vouchers at a special price, allowing customers to purchase Pepero Day planned products from CU listed on the Wemakeprice app.
Among this year's Pepero Day products, CU prepared about 20 collaboration items with various industries such as movies, games, and clothing. They also released many planned products containing official licensed goods available only at CU. As a representative product, CU exclusively launched the ‘BYC Pepero Package’ in collaboration with underwear company BYC, targeting November when purchases of thermal underwear increase.
Seven Eleven has introduced about 100 products in preparation for the upcoming Pepero Day and started full-scale event preparations. Since Pepero Day is strongly characterized as a day to share with not only lovers but also family, friends, and colleagues, they strengthened the lineup of package products composed of general Pepero products that can be gifted without burden.
As a differentiated product, they are exclusively selling ‘Dalgona Pepero’ and also introduced a Pepero set including popular Minions character gifts exclusively. Additionally, various discount benefits have been prepared for practical purchases. Seven Eleven is running a discount event until the 14th on nine popular Pepero products including Almond and Dalgona Pepero, as well as 15 Ferrero Rocher products.
Emart24 is expanding the traditional concept of Pepero Day by offering an 11% discount on genuine Apple accessories and holding a Pringles goods giveaway event. This is an event featuring products shaped like the number 1, resembling November 11.
