[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim Young-jong, Mayor of Jongno-gu, attended as the chairperson of the ‘12th Mokmingwan Club Regular Forum’ held on the 6th and 7th in Dangjin-si, Chungnam Province, and engaged in a heated discussion on the localization strategy of the Korean New Deal.
The Mokmingwan Club is a voluntary association of local government heads who practice grassroots democracy and aim to achieve sustainable regional development together with local residents through cooperation, research, and mutual exchange.
Jongno-gu has been involved since the launch of the Mokmingwan Club, and Kim Young-jong, Mayor of Jongno-gu, was elected as the new standing representative of the Mokmingwan Club at the 8th extraordinary general meeting.
This 12th forum was held under the theme of ‘Localization Strategy of the Korean New Deal.’ It was an occasion to share and discuss implementation plans at the local government level through the reading of the climate crisis emergency declaration resolution, forums, and case presentations on the Digital New Deal and Green New Deal, which are the core pillars of the Korean New Deal.
In the first part, the discussion began with a presentation on the ‘Digital New Deal Localization Strategy’ by Lee Yong-jin, Head of the Intelligent Data-Based Team at the National Information Society Agency, followed by a discussion. In the second part, the ‘Green New Deal Localization Strategy’ was addressed by Lee Yoo-jin, Director of the Green Transition Research Institute, along with four local government heads (Mayor of Dangjin, Mayor of Hwaseong, and heads of Seodaemun-gu and Dobong-gu), who shared cases and engaged in in-depth discussions.
On the second day of the regular forum, participants plan to visit excellent policy sites in Dangjin-si, such as Dangjin Eco Power and the Smart Farm horticulture complex, to observe vivid local cases firsthand.
