Jeon Nam-do Councilor Shin Min-ho, Only 2 out of 100 Tourists Stay Overnight in Jeon Nam
The Future Food Source of Jeonnam's Tourism Industry... Need to Establish Profit Generation Plans
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Shin Minho, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, attracted attention by presenting a plan to generate tourism revenue through the activation of stay-type tourism, stating at the Tourism, Culture, and Sports Bureau administrative audit on the 4th that "tourism is Jeonnam's future food industry."
Councilor Shin Minho pointed out, "Looking at the usage status of accommodation businesses in Jeollanam-do, out of a total of 50,730,000 tourists in 2018, the number of overnight guests was 967,000," adding, "The accommodation rate is 1.9%, meaning that out of 100 visitors, only about 2 stay overnight."
He continued, "This is evidence that Jeonnam's tourism mainly consists of pass-through tourism rather than stay-type tourism," strongly criticizing the backwardness of Jeonnam's tourism policy.
Councilor Shin also said, "Among the 62,548,000 tourists in Jeonnam in 2019, foreigners accounted for a low 4.4%, or 259 people," and added, "Except for the United States, the distribution by country is concentrated in Asia, so multifaceted changes such as reinforcing overseas marketing experts are necessary to attract foreign tourists."
