Jeon Nam Provincial Assembly Member Lee Kwang-il Emphasizes Active Cooperation with Local Governments Amid Reduced Education Funding
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Lee Gwang-il, a member of the Education Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, emphasized active cooperation between the provincial Office of Education and local governments regarding the reduced education budget in 2021 during the administrative audit under the jurisdiction of the Jeollanam-do Office of Education on the 4th, he announced on the 5th.
Regarding the 230 billion KRW reduction in the 2021 general grant compared to the previous year's original budget, Assemblyman Lee said, "There are growing concerns that education may be disrupted," and stressed, "The provincial Office of Education must actively step forward and wisely navigate the situation to ensure that our students do not suffer any damage."
He also emphasized, "With new expenditure demands arising from COVID-19, remote classes, future education, and integrated schools, financial difficulties are expected, so efficient financial management is urgently needed to prevent the quality of education provided to students from declining."
Assemblyman Lee requested "active cooperation between the Office of Education and local governments to secure education finances through close communication so that the impact on our children's education can be minimized, even though the financial situation of local governments is not abundant."

In addition, Assemblyman Lee reviewed various current issues in Jeonnam education, including preparations for the establishment of educational autonomy following the decentralization of education policy, promotion of integrated schools, development plans for school support centers, activation plans for school sports clubs, support for out-of-school youth, activation plans for student-led projects, and operation plans for the Mind Growth Integrated Support Center.
