How Is the Industrial Workplace Changing? Face-to-Face Labor Environment Survey Conducted
KOSHA Industrial Safety and Health Research Institute, 6th Survey ... European Foundation Same Survey, Country Comparison
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency's Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute (Director Ko Jae-cheol) is conducting the "6th Working Environment Survey" to collect basic data for establishing industrial accident prevention policies.
The survey is a nationally approved statistic by Statistics Korea, first conducted in 2006, and has been conducted every three years since the 3rd survey in 2011.
The survey targets 50,000 households nationwide, including employed persons aged 15 and over (including employers and self-employed), and covers a total of about 130 items such as △worker health △job satisfaction △work-life balance △working hours △organizational communication △violence/discrimination △degree of exposure to workplace hazards.
The survey methods consist of three types: △face-to-face interviews △online questionnaires △self-administered questionnaires.
The face-to-face interview is conducted by professional surveyors through on-site visits and lasts about 40 minutes.
If face-to-face interviews are difficult, respondents can access the online survey via the internet address provided on-site or use the self-administered method by receiving a paper questionnaire, filling it out, and having the surveyor collect it later.
Professional surveyors receive separate training to comply with personal hygiene rules and conduct the survey under strict hygiene management, including frequent disinfection of survey equipment.
The 6th Working Environment Survey will be conducted from October to March 2021, dividing a total of 50,000 people by city and province based on the Population and Housing Census.
The survey results will be used as basic data for establishing industrial safety and health policies and research according to changes in lifestyle and working environment after COVID-19.
The survey uses the same questionnaire as the European Foundation (Eurofound, an EU agency) Working Conditions Survey, allowing for comparison of working environment levels by country.

Director Ko Jae-cheol of the Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute said, "Although household visits are difficult due to COVID-19, we will thoroughly manage the surveyors' quarantine to ensure the smooth progress of the working environment survey," and added, "As respondents' personal information is managed and protected according to the Statistics Act, we hope they will respond faithfully to the survey."
