[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Congressman Lee Yong-bin (Democratic Party of Korea, Gwangju Gwangsan-gap) stated on the 5th, "The preliminary feasibility exemption law must be passed within this year when establishing public medical centers."
At the party policy coordination meeting that day, Congressman Lee said regarding next year's budget review, "Above all, the security of the people's lives must come first," adding, "Although individual quarantine and K-quarantine capabilities have been further strengthened, securing publicness within the medical system remains a challenge to be resolved."
He also mentioned the rehabilitation hospital in Gyeonggi-do currently under cohort isolation, saying, "Patient transfer is urgent, but private hospitals are afraid to accept confirmed cases, and the only place that has expressed willingness to accept patients is the Suwon Medical Center, a public hospital," pointing out, "This is something already experienced in cities and provinces where numerous confirmed cases emerged due to community infection spread."
He continued, "On the 3rd, 173 labor and civic organizations simultaneously held press conferences nationwide urging the strengthening of public healthcare," adding, "COVID-19 has made us realize that protecting the lives and safety of the people is the most important task in our society."
He also urged, "The government should increase the budget for public healthcare, including the expansion of public hospitals, and exempt preliminary feasibility studies when promoting the establishment of public medical institutions," and "I hope the government will demonstrate its commitment to expanding public healthcare through the prompt establishment of Daejeon Medical Center."
