CNN "Latin Voters in Swing States Like Florida Support Trump More Than 4 Years Ago"
"Focus on Economy Over COVID-19"...Strong Support for Trump
"High Loyalty Among Trump Supporters"...More Than 4 Out of 5 Vote
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] It has been revealed that Latino voters supported President Donald Trump more in the U.S. presidential election.
On the 3rd (local time), CNN reported that in key battleground states such as Florida, Ohio, and Georgia, known as the most competitive areas, Trump is leading unexpectedly according to exit polls. Although Democratic candidate Joe Biden pushed the 'COVID-19 judgment' against the Trump administration due to its failure to respond to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), analysis suggests that voters were mainly concerned about economic difficulties.
According to CNN on the 3rd (local time), with 96% of the votes counted in Florida, President Trump is receiving 51.2% of the votes, while Biden has 47.7%. The race between the two candidates, which was neck and neck in the early stages of counting, tilted in favor of Trump as more than 90% of the votes were counted. CNN analyzed that exit polls show Latino voters supported Trump more than in the 2016 election, and Biden’s significant loss of Latino support was reflected in the election results.
According to CNN, President Trump received support from over 40% of Latino voters in Florida, which is more than 5 percentage points higher than in the 2016 election. On the other hand, Biden received support from about 50% of Latino voters, significantly lower than the 62% that Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton received in 2016. CNN pointed out, "Biden lost Latino supporters in Georgia and Ohio compared to Clinton in 2016. Clinton received overwhelming Latino voter support, leading Trump by more than 41 percentage points, but Biden only led by about 25 percentage points."
CNN analyzed that the main factor behind this shift in the race was the economic difficulties caused by COVID-19. CNN reported, "Although the Democrats framed the election around judging the Trump administration’s COVID-19 response, voters actually prioritized the economy and jobs, leading them to support Trump, who advocated strong stimulus measures. About half of the voters believe the national economy is better than four years ago, indicating high approval of Trump’s economic policies."

Candidate loyalty was also reportedly higher for President Trump. According to CNN’s analysis, four out of five Trump supporters voted for him, whereas only about two-thirds of Biden supporters reported voting for him.
