Yeonggwang-gun Secures 30.3 Billion Won for Designation as Priority Sewerage Maintenance Area
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Junsung) announced on the 4th that it has secured 30.3 billion KRW (21.2 billion KRW from the central government) in project funds to prevent flooding damage in the urban area of Yeonggwang-eup, designated as a ‘Sewerage Maintenance Priority Management Area.’
The urban area of Yeonggwang-eup suffered significant damage to homes and businesses due to flooding during the heavy rains in July and August.
In response, the county applied for designation as a Sewerage Maintenance Priority Management Area to prevent repeated flood damage and allow residents to focus solely on their livelihoods. As a result, it was selected as a final target area, securing a total of 30.3 billion KRW in project funds, including 21.2 billion KRW from the central government, marking a significant achievement.
The county had been considering various measures to resolve residents’ difficulties caused by urban flooding due to localized heavy rains and insufficient capacity of stormwater drainage pipes. However, fundamental solutions were difficult due to limited budgets allocated to large-scale sewerage maintenance projects, causing much concern.
With the newly selected sewerage priority management project, a maintenance plan will be established for the 4.04㎢ urban area of Yeonggwang-eup. Once the detailed design is completed, 15.1 km of stormwater drainage pipes will be maintained, fundamentally resolving the chronic flooding causes in Yeonggwang-eup’s urban area, thereby ensuring the property and safety of the residents.
