In Changwon, 5 High School Family Members Test Positive Ahead of College Entrance Exam... Universities and Companies on Alert (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] In Changwon, Gyeongnam, five family members including high school students tested positive for COVID-19, prompting authorities to launch an epidemiological investigation.
Changwon City announced on the 4th that a teenage high school student (No. 92), his father in his 50s (No. 93), mother in her 50s (No. 94), daughter in her 20s (No. 95), and teenage daughter (No. 96), all living in Uichang-gu, tested positive for COVID-19.
As a result, the total number of confirmed cases in Changwon rose to 94.
The teenage son had nasal congestion symptoms on the 2nd, attended school on the 3rd but left early in the morning due to fever symptoms, and immediately visited a screening clinic where he tested positive in the evening.
Subsequent testing of contacts revealed that all four family members also tested positive.
The epidemiological investigation showed that the father of the teenage high school student (in his 50s) had mild cold symptoms on the 27th of last month, after which the family members sequentially developed symptoms.
Health authorities are currently identifying the infection route, movement paths, and contacts of the infected individuals.
For the 600 employees at the company where the father works, an on-site screening clinic has been set up to conduct mass testing, and about 180 students and staff members in the same class at the teenage high school student's school are also being tested.
The Gyeongnam Office of Education has suspended in-person attendance for all students at the teenage high school student's school starting from the 4th and switched to online classes. The same applies to a girls' high school sharing the same school gate and entire school fence, which also switched to remote learning from the 4th.
