[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Lotte Confectionery announced on the 4th that it held the opening ceremony of the 8th branch of the regional children's center, 'Lotte Confectionery Sweet Home,' ahead of Pepero Day.
The 8th Sweet Home branch is located in Imjado, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, with a building area of 200㎡ (60.39 pyeong) and a site area of 720㎡ (217.8 pyeong). This is the first time a Sweet Home has been established on an island region, with Imjado being the location.
Lotte Confectionery Sweet Home is a collaborative project between Lotte Confectionery and the international relief and development NGO Save the Children, and its construction is a social contribution activity funded by the proceeds from Pepero sales. It is carried out annually with the intention of sharing the love received through Pepero.
At the opening ceremony, a minimal number of attendees participated considering the COVID-19 situation, including Min Myung-gi, CEO of Lotte Confectionery; Park Woo-ryang, Mayor of Sinan-gun; Jung Tae-young, Secretary General of Save the Children; and Kim Hyuk-sung, Chairman of Sinan-gun Council. CEO Min expressed gratitude for the efforts of those involved and said, “Through Sweet Home, we will support children in creating happy memories and building a hopeful future.”

The name of the 8th Sweet Home branch is 'Cheonsa-ai Regional Children's Center,' named directly by the children who will use the facility. The name 'Cheonsa-ai' was inspired by Sinan-gun being composed of 1,004 islands, known as the 'Angel Islands,' meaning 'children of the Angel Islands.' The facility is designed to provide safe after-school spaces for children and adolescents, including rest, play, study, and counseling areas. Additionally, from the initial construction phase, the opinions of local residents and children were actively reflected in deciding the facility's structure and design.
