National Children's Classic Recitation Contest Winners (Kang Juha · Jeong Siheon) Announced
Yongsan District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun Meets Award-Winning Children of National Classic Recitation Contest in Office on 2nd, Encourages Kang Ju-ha and Jeong Si-heon
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 2nd, Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, met with the winners of the '2020 National Children's Classic Recitation Contest' at the mayor's office to encourage them.
The National Children's Classic Recitation Contest is an event hosted by the Korea Institute of Korean Studies, continuing since 2016. This year, to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the event was held non-face-to-face (online).
Three winners came from Yongsan. Among them, two are students of Yongsan Seodang, operated by the district. Kang Ju-ha (female, 7) and Jeong Si-heon (9) received the Excellence and Encouragement Awards, respectively.
Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, "By reciting classics, one can deeply internalize the wisdom of our ancestors," and added, "We will continue to make every effort to operate Yongsan Seodang so that winners can be continuously produced."
Yongsan Seodang is located in the annex of Yongsan Dream Tree Complex Town (329 Baekbeom-ro, Yongsan-gu). It opened at the end of 2017, and the classes are divided into elementary school classes [Introductory only, Basic classes (A·B), Weekend classes] and adult classes [Introductory classes (day·night), Basic classes (day·night)].

Each class has a capacity of 10 students, and the course content includes introductory/basic Chinese characters, basic radicals, Shuowen Jiezi, Saja Sohak, Thousand Character Classic, and Geokmong Yokgyeol. Non-face-to-face classes will continue until the end of this year.
