Former Samsung Electronics President Lee Sang-wan, Who Led the LCD Business, Passes Away
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Lee Sang-wan, former Samsung Electronics president who led the company's liquid crystal display (LCD) business, has passed away.
According to industry sources, Lee passed away around 1 a.m. on the 3rd at Samsung Seoul Hospital. It is known that he had been battling cancer. The funeral will be held at 7 a.m. on the 6th, and the burial site is Moran Park Cemetery in Maseok, Gyeonggi Province.
Lee is recognized as the key figure who led Samsung Electronics' LCD division from 1993 to 2008 for 15 years, driving it into the global market.
As a then executive director, Lee promoted 12.1 inches as the standard size, supplying to global notebook manufacturers such as Toshiba, proving his capabilities.
