Ewha Womans University Hosts 'Asia Women Presidents Forum,' a Platform for Asian University Women's Networks

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Ewha Womans University announced on the 3rd that it held the 2nd Asia Women Presidents Forum, attended by women presidents of universities in Northeast Asia and the United States as well as presidents of women's colleges, online on the 23rd and 24th of last month.
The Asia Women Presidents Forum held its first forum last April in Nanjing, China. This year's 2nd forum was organized under the theme of "Promoting Cooperation for Women's Educational Innovation and Talent Development in Northeast Asia." Ewha Womans University and the United States-based Asian education support foundation, United Board, co-hosted the event, with domestic Scranton Women's Leadership Center and Japan-based Wesley Foundation co-sponsoring. Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the forum was conducted in a non-face-to-face format.

President Kim Hye-sook, who delivered the opening remarks, gave a keynote speech titled "The Future of Women's Colleges: Normalizing the New Normal." President Kim emphasized, "The COVID-19 crisis has triggered many changes not only in work methods, religious activities, and cultural activities but also in the higher education market," adding, "The importance of feminist knowledge production is becoming more acute." She continued, "In the post-pandemic changed world, socially vulnerable groups inevitably become more vulnerable, and this applies to women as well," and stated, "Facing the paradigm shift of the 4th Industrial Revolution and changes in the era of science and technology, women are encountering new challenges to learn the language of the digital age, and women's colleges must develop educational methods that consider the characteristics of women's life cycles."
