Gwangju Dong-gu 'Our Neighborhood Cleanliness Project' Achievements
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) is seeing results from the 'Our Neighborhood Cleanliness Project,' which was promoted as part of the COVID-19 response lifestyle public job project.
According to Dong-gu on the 2nd, the district held a performance report meeting for the 'Our Neighborhood Cleanliness Project' on the 30th of last month, sharing achievements of seven projects including the operation of an illegal garbage dumping crackdown team to establish a proper garbage disposal culture early.
Dong-gu selected 290 'Garbage Solvers' by village and concentrated their deployment in cleaning-vulnerable areas and illegal dumping sites.
They focused on garbage collection, promoting reduction of food waste and separate disposal of recyclables, promoting milk carton collection targeting coffee shops, conducting surveys of large food waste generating businesses, and creating fragrant community participation gardens.
Dong-gu originally planned the project schedule until last month but decided to extend the deadline until the end of this month thanks to active activities.

Mayor Im Taek of Dong-gu said, "The public job project provided jobs to residents suffering economic difficulties due to COVID-19 and achieved a twofold effect by also cleaning the environment," adding, "We will successfully promote the '2020 Cleaning Administration Innovation Project,' which is being carried out through public-private cooperation, to revitalize the local economy and create a clean Dong-gu free of garbage."
