Heo Seok, Mayor of Suncheon, Inspects Major Local Projects in Eup, Myeon, and Dong Areas
Meeting of Eupmyeondong Heads Held, Sharing Next Year's Key Tasks and Current Projects
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) held a meeting on the 30th of last month, chaired by Mayor Heo Seok, with about 60 participants including Vice Mayor Lim Chae-young, department heads, and heads of eup, myeon, and dong districts, to share major issues of Suncheon City and key tasks for eup, myeon, and dong districts for the coming year.
At the meeting, Mayor Heo Seok shared major ongoing projects of Suncheon City with the eup, myeon, and dong heads, including ▲ the signature campaign to attract the Suncheon National University College of Medicine, ▲ the emergency livelihood support project for vulnerable households, ▲ operation of on-site reception centers for small business owners' New Hope Fund, ▲ standards for imposing fines for mask-wearing, ▲ the emergency livelihood support project for vulnerable households, and ▲ full implementation of resident autonomy councils in 24 eup, myeon, and dong districts, requesting that the eup, myeon, and dong offices devise plans for resident participation and communication.
Each eup, myeon, and dong head reported on key tasks for the next year, the full implementation of resident autonomy councils in all 24 eup, myeon, and dong districts, and the progress and plans for creating citizen gardens, which form the foundation for the success of the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo.
Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon City emphasized, “As autonomy and decentralization increase residents' authority, the role of eup, myeon, and dong heads becomes more important,” and urged, “Please make greater efforts to communicate with residents so that their interest and participation in administration become routine.”

He also reiterated, “The completion of major policies depends on the efforts of eup, myeon, and dong heads,” and stressed, “I ask eup, myeon, and dong heads to actively carry out their duties so that resident autonomy councils grow into genuine autonomous organizations at the eup, myeon, and dong level, and so that many residents can participate in the creation of citizen gardens.”
