Daegu Yesu Jungshim Church Infection Spreads for a Week... Cumulative Confirmed Cases Reach 30

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] The spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) originating from Daegu Yesu Center Church has not subsided for a week.
Since the residences of confirmed cases are distributed throughout Daegu and their movement paths include public transportation, saunas, and restaurants?places where contact with unspecified many is highly likely?the quarantine authorities are on high alert.
According to Daegu City on the 2nd, as of midnight, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the region increased by 3 from the previous day, totaling 7,179. All three additional confirmed cases are members of Daegu Yesu Center Church located in Jungri-dong, Seo-gu. They tested positive during tests conducted while in self-quarantine.
At this church, following the positive diagnosis of a woman in her 80s (Dong-gu) on the 27th of last month, two church members and one contact were additionally confirmed positive the next day, spreading the n-th generation infection related to the church.
As of midnight on the 2nd, the number of church-related confirmed cases in Daegu alone has increased to 28, including 10 on the 29th. Separately, one church member or contact who visited the church tested positive each in Incheon and Jeonbuk.
Among the 30 confirmed cases nationwide related to the church, 23 are church members, 5 are secondary infection contacts who tested positive, and 2 are tertiary infections.
Confirmed cases related to the Yesu Church in Daegu are distributed in various areas. Dong-gu has the highest number with 9 cases, followed by Dalseo-gu (5), Suseong-gu (4), Buk-gu (5), Seo-gu (4), and Nam-gu (1).
Notably, among the tertiary infected individuals is a student attending a large entrance exam academy with about 900 students (retaking students). Epidemiological investigations revealed that the confirmed cases’ movement paths included a Korean buffet and sauna facilities, raising concerns.

A Daegu city official stated, "We have conducted diagnostic tests on more than 400 people, including church members and contacts listed in the secured church roster, and are investigating the source of infection through additional epidemiological investigations." He emphasized, "Citizens whose movement paths overlap with those of confirmed cases posted on the city’s homepage should refrain from going out and get tested."
