"Let's Reduce 1 Ton of Greenhouse Gas Per Person Per Year Together"
Jongno-gu Promotes '1·1·1 Lifestyle Practice Movement' to Create a Sustainable City Responding to Climate Change
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jongno-gu (Mayor Kim Young-jong) is promoting the '1·1·1 Lifestyle Practice Movement,' which encourages each individual to reduce 1 ton of greenhouse gases per year, as part of creating a sustainable city where people and the environment coexist. As part of this initiative, pledges are being collected both online and offline.
The '1·1·1 Lifestyle Practice Movement' stems from the fact that most greenhouse gases causing climate change are emitted from non-industrial sectors (households, commerce, transportation).
Jongno-gu is located in the city center, densely packed with large buildings and commercial facilities, with heavy vehicle traffic and pedestrian flow, making it an area with high carbon emissions.
However, it also possesses abundant green spaces such as Inwangsan, Bugaksan, Naksan, and Bukhansan mountains, providing a geographical advantage to reabsorb the carbon emitted by the urban area.
Leveraging these characteristics, the district is implementing the 'Climate Action Project' with a goal to reduce 500,000 tons of greenhouse gases by 2025. Considering that approximately 1.3 million tons of greenhouse gases are emitted annually within the district, if 100,000 residents each reduce 1 ton per year, it is expected to cut about 10% of the annual emissions.
Furthermore, recognizing that resident participation is essential for reducing greenhouse gases, the district is collecting pledges to encourage individuals to practice lifestyle rules that reduce 1 ton of greenhouse gases annually in their daily lives.
The '1·1·1 Lifestyle Practice Movement Pledge' is open to anyone living in Jongno-gu.
Participants can fill out their name, contact information, and area on the district office website, local community centers, or health centers, and select their annual greenhouse gas reduction target.
As an accompanying event, a 'Climate Action Practice Challenge' will be held, where 100 participants who make pledges during the period will be selected by lottery to receive mobile gift certificates.
The winners will be announced on December 16. Additionally, from November 16 to 30, a 'Climate Action Quiz Event' will be held on the district office's SNS, with mobile gift certificates awarded by lottery among participants.
