KT Ranks First for Two Consecutive Years in UN Sustainable Development Goals Management Index
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT announced on the 1st that it was selected for the second consecutive year in the top group of the ‘2020 UN Sustainable Development Goals Business Index (SDGBI)’ global index announced by the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Council Special Consultative Status Organization ‘UN SDGs Association’.
This evaluation was conducted on about 3,000 companies worldwide, of which 300 companies were included in the global index. KT was the only domestic company to be jointly ranked first along with eight global companies such as Nestl?, Tesla, Adidas, and Pfizer.
Since 2016, KT has been ranked first in the SDGBI domestic index for three consecutive years and has been selected for the top group in the global index for two consecutive years since last year. The eight companies selected in the top group along with KT include global comprehensive food company Nestl?, electric vehicle company Tesla, global sports goods company Adidas, global pharmaceutical company Pfizer, luxury brand company Kering Group, world-renowned fashion company H&M, and global investment financial company BlackRock.
The association highly evaluated KT for its joint efforts by labor and management to implement the SDGs through the labor-management joint sharing council UCC activities, its contribution to reducing carbon emissions through the world’s first integrated energy management platform ‘KT-MEG’ including renewable energy and electric vehicle charging, its establishment of response systems for crisis situations such as climate change and infectious diseases, its development of AI technology contributing to quality education and job creation, and its expansion of intelligent networks such as AI, VR/AR, and blockchain to respond to the non-face-to-face environment caused by COVID-19.
In this global index, the top group, excellent group, and upper group selected including KT will be introduced as major sustainable management cases of the international community through various UN SDGs platforms in the future, and the association’s ‘Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) certificate’ will also be awarded. In addition, they will be recommended as partner companies of the international eco-friendly certification ‘GRP (Guidelines for Plastic Reduction and Climate Change Response)’ announced every May.
The UN SDGBI is a management analysis index based on the ‘UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs)’ and has been announced since 2016. It is officially introduced at the ‘UN Headquarters Sustainable High-Level Political Forum (UN HLPF)’ and is known worldwide. It is analyzed in four areas: society, environment, economy, and institution, with 12 items and 48 indicators, analyzing 2,000 companies worldwide and 1,000 domestic companies focusing on companies whose management activities best align with the 17 SDGs.
