Steel Association Successfully Conducts Steel-Ai Industry Specialist Training Program
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The Korea Iron & Steel Association (Chairman Choi Jung-woo) and the Korea Digital Convergence Institute (Director Seok Ho-ik) announced on the 30th that they are successfully conducting the Steel-AI convergence training program, part of the '2020 Industrial Specialist Artificial Intelligence (AI) Capability Enhancement' support project funded by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The training, which began on October 12, consists of three courses: an executive-level course for leaders deciding on AI adoption, a mid-management course for planning and operating AI initiatives, and a convergence expert course for those working in steel IT software departments. More than 200 employees from large companies such as Hyundai Steel and Korea Iron & Steel, as well as small and medium steel companies, have participated in the training.
An executive from a steel company who participated in the leader training stated that while AI adoption is essential to enhance competitiveness in the steel industry during periods of oversupply, acquiring knowledge on how to implement AI had been challenging. However, through this training, they gained confidence to accelerate the promotion of smart factories and expressed hope that the government would provide continuous support to ensure systematic AI workforce development education rather than short-term policy initiatives.
