Goheung-gun Recruiting Foreign Seasonal Workers in Seafood Processing Sector
Application for Visiting Cohabitation (F-1) Foreigners Open Until the 13th of Next Month
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Chunsu] Goheung County in Jeonnam announced on the 30th that it will temporarily recruit seasonal workers among foreigners who have entered the country with a Visit Cohabitation (F-1) visa status to support processing companies expected to face labor shortages due to COVID-19 until the 13th of next month.
Goheung County signed an MOU with San Leonardo County in the Philippines on November 6, 2017, and has been deploying manpower annually in the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
This year, 142 people were allocated to the fisheries sector in the second half of the year, but due to the spread of COVID-19, restrictions on entry and exit and difficulties in flight operations have virtually halted arrivals.
Accordingly, to resolve manpower supply issues, the county plans to accept applications within the temporarily allowed number for foreigners with Visit Cohabitation (F-1) visa status residing domestically and assign them to companies that wish to hire.
The eligible seasonal workers are foreigners aged between 19 and 59 who registered as foreigners with Visit Cohabitation (F-1) visa status before March 30 of this year and can apply with the consent of a recommender. The working period is scheduled to start from early December and last for 90 days or up to 5 months.
The work location is a dried seaweed processing factory in the Goheung County area, and the number of recruits is 142. If all required personnel are recruited, the recruitment will end early, and seasonal work assignments will be reviewed and allocated in order of application.
