Lawyer Park Hoon Reveals Real Name and Face of Prosecutor Involved in 'Room Salon Alcohol Entertainment' (Comprehensive)
Citizen Group and Lawyer Park Hoon File Complaint to Supreme Prosecutors' Office... "Not Public Interest but Defamation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] On the 30th, lawyer Park Hoon revealed the name and photo of a current prosecutor who attended the so-called 'prosecutor drinking party' exposed by former Star Mobility chairman Kim Bong-hyun through his Facebook.
The disclosed individual is a deputy chief prosecutor currently affiliated with the Ansan branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office. He worked at the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office last year, investigating the Lime Asset Management (Lime) case.
Lawyer Park explained, "One of the prosecutors whom Kim Bong-hyun entertained," adding, "I am disclosing this in the public interest."
Kim, a key figure in the Lime scandal, claimed in a prison statement released on the 16th, "In July last year, through lawyer A, I entertained three current prosecutors with drinks worth about 10 million won."
The Ministry of Justice launched an inspection, and the prosecution formed a dedicated investigation team that is currently conducting an investigation. The team recently conducted successive raids on lawyer A's office, the offices of two identified prosecutors, and a room salon in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, which was pointed out as the venue for the entertainment.
Previously, lawyer Park also disclosed the real names of opposition politicians mentioned in Kim's prison statement.
In response, the Judicial Examination Preparation Group (Sajunmo) announced that they submitted a complaint to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office requesting that lawyer Park Hoon be punished for defamation by false information under the Information and Communications Network Act, or alternatively for defamation by factual statement under the same law.
Through the complaint, Sajunmo argued, "At this point, it has not been clarified whether the contents of Kim Bong-hyun's prison letter are true," and "They damaged reputations by believing and disclosing personal information as if all the contents of Kim Bong-hyun's letter were true."
They added, "Even if some of the disclosed content is true, the use of expressions such as 'trash' and 'If that trash tries to do something to me, I hope it will be a war' was insulting."
Furthermore, Sajunmo raised doubts about the credibility of Kim's prison letter. They stated, "The contents of the prison letter and the statements of the lawyer who defended Kim Bong-hyun are contradictory," and "The prosecution, which is investigating, has not yet publicly disclosed specific investigation results," adding, "Unless the truth of whether the entertainment was actually received from Kim Bong-hyun is proven, the disclosed content should be regarded as false at this point."
