Jeju Coast Guard Agency Launches Pilot Operation of 'Coastal Safety Guardians'
Strengthening Public-Private Collaboration Systems for Coastal Accident Prevention
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Regional Maritime Police Agency (Chief Kim Seongjong) announced on the 29th that it will pilot the operation of the "Coastal Safety Guardians" in collaboration with the Korea Maritime Safety Association for the entire month of November.
The Coastal Safety Guardians are appointed as "Private Coastal Patrol Personnel" according to Article 17 of the Act on the Prevention of Coastal Accidents, selecting individuals who are well acquainted with the characteristics of coastal waters to assist in patrol and guidance duties aimed at preventing coastal accidents.
This pilot operation will designate one location each at the Jeju Maritime Police Station (around Iho Beach) and the Seogwipo Maritime Police Station (around Seogwipo Port). Throughout November, activities will include safety accident prevention for marine leisure participants such as anglers, safety promotion, and inspection of safety facilities.

A representative of the Jeju Regional Maritime Police Agency stated, "We expect the pilot operation of the Coastal Safety Guardians to contribute to the prevention of safety accidents in coastal waters, and based on the results of this pilot, we plan to expand the program next year."
