Deputy Minister Gi: "5,700 Companies and Institutions Willing to Participate in Data Dam"
Vice Minister Kim to Preside Over 'Digital New Deal Subcommittee Meeting' on the 29th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] More than 5,700 companies and institutions have expressed their intention to participate in the Data Dam construction project, which is being promoted in the Digital New Deal sector of the Korean New Deal initiative.
On the 29th at 2 p.m., Kim Yong-beom, First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, chaired a Digital New Deal division meeting at the Export-Import Bank in Yeouido, Seoul, and announced this.
Vice Minister Kim explained, "As a representative project of the Korean New Deal, we are promoting the Data Dam project, which collects and processes data generated by the public and private sectors to create smarter artificial intelligence," adding, "Currently, more than 5,700 companies and institutions have expressed their willingness to participate in seven major projects."
He continued, "There is strong interest, with about 2,400 institutions such as universities, research institutes, and hospitals being selected," and emphasized, "We will strive to establish a system that uses truly necessary data in a timely manner."
Vice Minister Kim stated, "To harmonize the promotion of data utilization and personal information protection, which is the purpose of the Data 3 Act implemented in August this year, we will pursue institutional improvements," and added, "It is necessary to consider policy directions to activate data sharing."
The government also plans to develop AI semiconductors that rapidly process accumulated data to lay the foundation for the Data Dam. Currently, major countries such as the United States and China recognize the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors and are focusing on investing in core technologies to secure leadership.

Vice Minister Kim said, "In October, we announced the AI semiconductor industry development strategy, aiming for a 30% global market share by 2030, 20 innovative companies, and training 3,000 high-level talents," emphasizing, "The public and private sectors must work together with a multifaceted effort to lead a second D-RAM legend in AI semiconductors."
